Ericka Simmons will be recommended to the Mariemont Board of Education as the new principal of Mariemont Elementary School at the May 21 board meeting. Ms. Simmons has ten years of experience in an administrative role at the elementary level; one year of experience as a district math resource teacher; and nine years of classroom teaching experience. She is currently principal at Adena Elementary School with Lakota Local Schools.
“Ms. Simmons’ professional experience provides the well-rounded background for which we were looking, and I believe she will be a valuable asset to our school, our district and our community,” said Steven Estepp, who was recently appointed as Mariemont City School District’s next superintendent. “She has demonstrated strengths in implementing strategies for improving teaching and learning through the development and consistent communication of a vision and establishment of clear goals.”
Ms. Simmons has additional administrative experience as principal at Shawnee Elementary School with Lakota Local Schools, principal at Waycross Elementary with Winton Woods City Schools and as assistant principal at Shawnee Elementary. She was also an elementary classroom teacher at Maple Dale Elementary with Sycamore Schools, and a math resource teacher and elementary classroom teacher with Winton Woods City Schools. Throughout all of her professional positions, she focused on increasing support for student success, setting building goals, promoting team strategies and maintaining strong and open lines of communication.
“I am looking forward to meeting and working with the staff, students and families of Mariemont Elementary and learning about the great things that are happening in and with the school,” said Ericka Simmons. “I believe in fostering a positive and collaborative school culture and in nurturing a lifelong love of learning, and I am very excited about joining the leadership team at Mariemont City Schools.”
Current Mariemont Elementary School principal Lance Hollander will assume the principal position at Mariemont Junior High School beginning in the 2013-14 school year. Current Mariemont Junior High School principal Keith Koehne has taken a position as assistant superintendent of Loveland City Schools beginning next school year. There are currently approximately 585 students and 55 staff members at Mariemont Elementary School.
