Dogwood Park

Dogwood Park

Hiking along Whiskey Run Creek, you can perhaps hear faint cheers from a ball game drifting into the valley, or maybe catch the stray laugh of a child swinging high at the Tot Lot. As you wind further along the trail in summertime, splashes and lifeguard whistles become audible. All these diverse activities take place in Mariemont’s largest green space, Dogwood Park.

Covering over 20 acres, Dogwood Park contains ball fields, playground equipment, nature trails, the swimming pool, and a memorial to the Native Americans who once occupied the area. It is the site of the annual fireworks display, picnics and nature walks. The Boathouse sits tucked into the side of the hill, where it once housed canoes and rowboats for paddling around a 2-acre lagoon. The lagoon was emptied in the 1940’s due to drainage problems, but for many years residents enjoyed boating and ice skating on the lagoon.

It also features the soaring Bell Tower, a gift to the Village from Mary Emery’s sister, Isabella Hopkins, is one of only a few working carillons in North America.  Carillon concerts are performed on holidays and weekends by Dick Gegner, an expert carillonneur, and his talented guests.  The dates of the carillon concerts are listed on the Community Calendar on this website.  A patriotic Carillon concert highlights the fireworks display on July 4th each year in Dogwood Park.
