Lady Warriors Raise Money for Layup4Lauren

Mariemont High School’s Lady Warrior basketball team presented a check for $2,350 to The Cure Starts now during the January 27 home boys basketball game, exceeding their goal of $2,200, a goal based on Lauren’s jersey number – 22.

Members of the Lady Warriors attended Lauren Hill’s “One More Game” at Xavier University in November, and collectively decided to have a fundraiser for The Cure Starts Now, Lauren’s foundation.

The Melbourne Sparks were in the USA playing basketball for three weeks and Mariemont was one of the many stops on their schedule. The game against the Melbourne Sparks was turned into a fundraiser for The Cure Starts Now in an effort to help Lauren Hill reach her goals of a million dollars raised.

“When we started planning the Australian game, everything just kind of came together,” said Shana Rothert, a parent of one of the team members. “Everyone was so inspired by Lauren and her determination, and we wanted to do something to help. All of the girls were very moved by Lauren’s courage and strength in the game at Xavier.”
