| A roundaboutis a type of circular intersection junction in which road traffic flows in one direction around a central island. In a roundabout, entering traffic must always yield to traffic already in the circle, and roundabouts have additional restrictions on the junction layout to give high safety.Roundabouts require more land than stop signs or traffic lights because there a center island around which traffic flows. This adds complexity to converting traffic stops to roundabouts. Currently, few roundabouts exist in Cincinnati to introduce drivers to this more efficient traffic flow architecture. Roundabouts have been the most common intersection model for decades in Europe and Australia. Safety statistics show that roundabouts decrease the number of t-bone traffic accidents resulting in fatalities and that they speed up traffic flow and save gas.
